After a big win in Monday’s series opener, the Atlanta Braves will try to extend their winning streak to three-straight wins when they continue their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. With Monday’s win, the Braves trimmed their magic number to clinch the NL East to 11. They will enter play Tuesday with a three-game cushion over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Brian Snitker announced after the game Monday that Jesse Chavez will start a bullpen game for Atlanta Tuesday. Snitker added that both Touki Toussaint and Drew Smyly, along with the rest of the bullpen will be available. Chavez has appeared in 27 games for the Braves including one start. He has pitched well with a 2.57 ERA and a 1.55 FIP in 28 innings. Chavez has allowed just one run over his last six appearances.
Luke Weaver will make his 12th start of the season in Tuesday’s game for the Diamondbacks. Weaver began the season in Arizona’s rotation but missed over two months with a shoulder injury. He returned to action on September 1 and has allowed 13 hits and seven earned runs in 15 innings over three starts. He allowed five hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings in his last start against the Dodgers.
Adam Duvall hit his 37th home run of the season in Monday’s win and extended his league leading RBI total to 107. He is currently riding a career-best 16-game hitting streak. Snitker shuffled Atlanta’s lineup for the opener moving Jorge Soler into the leadoff spot where he was followed by Freddie Freeman and then Ozzie Albies. Freeman recorded three hits in the game while Albies went 2-for-5. That snapped a 1-for-13 stretch for Albies over the first three games of the road trip.
